Self Rescue

The people ignored ultimate realities and focused on distracting themselves.  The temporal is all that they saw.  Ultimately, God condemns them for their self-rescue attempts.  They did not look to and trust in the Lord God, but instead in themselves.   (Isaiah 22:13–14)

They trusted in their own ability

“Your choicest valleys were full of chariots, and the horsemen took their stand at the gates. He has taken away the covering of Judah. In that day you looked to the weapons of the House of the Forest, and you saw that the breaches of the city of David were many. You collected the waters of the lower pool, and you counted the houses of Jerusalem, and you broke down the houses to fortify the wall. You made a reservoir between the two walls for the water of the old pool. But you did not look to him who did it, or see him who planned it long ago.” (Isaiah 22:7–11 ESV)

The people trusted in their own ability to defend themselves, but they failed to trust in the The Lord their God!  They were practical to a fault.  What are you trusting in, your own wisdom and abilities or the Creator of all things?

Beatitudes: Poor In Spirit

The poor in spirit are spiritually bankrupt and broke; they bring nothing to the table to negotiate with.  When you are poor, you can’t protect or provide for yourself without outside help.  This is an ongoing attitude in the life of a believer.Poor In Spirit (Matthew 5:3) by Mark Henry

Nothing can thwart the sovereign will of God

“The LORD of hosts has sworn: “As I have planned, so shall it be, and as I have purposed, so shall it stand, that I will break the Assyrian in my land, and on my mountains trample him underfoot; and his yoke shall depart from them, and his burden from their shoulder.”
This is the purpose that is purposed concerning the whole earth, and this is the hand that is stretched out over all the nations. For the LORD of hosts has purposed, and who will annul it? His hand is stretched out, and who will turn it back?” (Isaiah 14:24–27 ESV)

Nothing can thwart the sovereign will of God – not even the most powerful force on the planet.  Nothing is can challenge the power of the Almighty.  His will comes to pass 100% of the time.  Nothing takes Him by surprise.

Those Whom He Justified He Also Glorified

“Many people want the skyscraper promise of Romans 8:28, many want the precious reality of eternal security. But they don’t want it on God’s terms. They want their security AND their sovereignty. They want God to step in at the end of their lives with sovereign power and give them glory, but they do not want him to step in now with his sovereign grace and make them holy.”  Listen Now:
